A Letter to the Devs

Thoughts in General:

I'm just going to start this off by saying that I am definitely not the best player here and I have merely compiled a list of grievances and tried to show a list of solutions to the existing problems and hopefully help you guys pull the game back on track. I may be wrong in some aspects and players can feel free to criticize me all the want as it will most likely make this post more effective. Now onto the main body of this post. I have played this game for about 5-6 months (give or take a month) and I have watched the general progression of this game and I'm saddened to say that the trend is going down rather than up. The first update you guys did( Golden Empire) was pretty good I'll be honest and generally offered a very active gameplay for all people from newbies to the pros. Although that game mode had a couple flaws(i.e The tech Tree and a few misc items) it was playable by all players and was generally fun for the most part. Then we had the beta, I was extremely happy that you guys took up my advice to do beta but it quickly went downhill, the beta although fun and mainly not so glitched(given a few things, but that's expected from a beta) but it still baffled me why you guys decided to go back to the old map but I went with it thinking it will all be alright but I later figured out why(I will explain later on). The beta being as it was had most if not all bugs that I found most prominent in deterring players were fixed by the end of the beta but when I first joined my first battlefield I quickly saw all the bugs that had been fixed return to the game along with several other bugs that had never appeared. Naturally, I am pretty positive everyone agrees with me here, we were disappointed in the game that we got as the "released version" or the "final version"

The grievances

Ok now for the part you guys are probably reading this for. Now this is just a list that I was able to compile from all the talks I was able to get from players. I urge players to add to this list for the betterment of the game. Anyway here we go:

  • First off this was a pointless addition to the game and I don't think it benefits the game in the way you were hoping for, that is the changes to the STUGS. Yes, I am very aware that some views on this might vary but I still thought this would be important to mention. The debuffs that were given to the STUGS, i.e The speed penalty without the compensation of a forced march and the extra troop space it takes is rather annoying and renders the STUGS pretty ineffective or annoying to care for. I find it ridiculous that you need 2 heavy transport planes to move 12 STUGS lv 1. Again this isn't a huge thing but I figured I would start off with the easy ones.
  • Next up is the performance of the game. By the looks of this update and the structure and layout of the map it's an amazement that the game is struggling so much with performance. This current map is nothing special at all and in my opinion has less going on with it than the Golden Empire map, even so, the game seems to be struggling with the basic functions of the of the player interactions like zooming out, loading the map, etc. You guys said you will fix it but I am just putting it here in case the devs want to use this resource to fix the game(Highly Recommended!)
  • The bugs are rampant in this version of the game which is a HUGE surprise considering most of the bugs we find now were clearly fixed by the end of the beta. I also figured yall understood the reason of a beta. You were supposed to FINISH coding then give us that version to beta test and find bugs in to optimize the version, the whole beta is kinda undermined if you keep toying with the code and changing stuff... Like seriously there are so many unwelcomed things in the finished version that would have been removed within days of the beta but you guys forgot that and went ahead with it... It still surprises me that that beta which looked very promising was essentially wasted.Anyway let's start on the list of bugs: 
    • Bug #1: Stuck troops! Guys... This was fixed mid beta and it's still here in the finished version... how is that even possible?! Please fix this.
    • Bug #2: The League accepts War button is broken... So you kinda have to wait 1 hour even if you are ready to go to war. 
    • Bug #3: Well that was pretty much it according to what I was able to gather and you guys were able to fix a couple on the go so good job on that. There might be more that I am not aware of but if there are I hope the players will put them below.
  • Ok, now a couple requests that players had when I asked them. There are probably more but hey this will start you off in the right direction:
    • More resource zone! - I agree there is a lack of resource zones in the areas and if you spawn in the same area of your league which is highly likely, then you have to FIGHT YOUR OWN TEAM MEMBERS for important early game resources and since you cannot share resource zones with other team members it gets in the way of one person's progression. 
    • An escort button - Simply a button for scouts,jets, and fighters to be able to "escort" your transport planes essentially matching the speed of the transports and prioritize damage towards themselves so if a turret would be shooting your transport and you have a fighter escorting it the fighter will take the turret damage rather than the transport.
    • Kill/Dismiss units outside the barracks button - This is to mainly avoid stranded troops that get either glitched in an area of the map or the ones that get stuck on a mini Island like shown in the image attached. You could have a timer associated with it so people don't abuse it but it needs to be a feature.

Letter Continued:

 

  • The last request I have is to revert your tier 5-6 tactics to the old ones. COME ON! first you guys mess with the artillery support now the Suicidal charger?! I get you guys made charge the way it is because you were afraid of people killing allied troops that way but now that we can pick our own allies why not leave that responsiblilty to us?! People that pull those antics will not have any allies then the problem is essentially solved. To fix one thing you guys screwed with the whole tactic essentially rendering it useless even for league use! 

Summary:

I think this game has a great future and really believe that it has the potential to become an amazing game.That being said it needs a lot of work. You guys have gotten some things right, for instance, the new targeting feature, everyone is a fan of it and I think you guys hit the nail right on the head with that one. One aspect of the Game that currently worries me is the player base and the inability for the game to compensate the little people and the newbies. The whole factionless system although fun to play and be a part of is very hazardous for new players with not as great or active members. With the current system, it will be a reoccurring theme that the same few leagues and alliances win and that really damages the morale of new players. Although I do enjoy the pvp style of the game I really think you should have left a bit of tactical gameplay element in the game. Not all players are pvpers some find it fun to play the objective and I feel they should be rewarded for their style of playing. I personally think you should have done all your updates on the Golden Empire Map and I truely believe that it would have been a great game if you did. Anyway, remember how I said I know why you guys went back to old map? I think it was out of lazyness, I think you guys reused old code from the earliest form of the game. I say that because many of those old glitches can be seen now for example artillery and anti-tank guns will fired even before setting up and more things of that nature. Anyway, I basically said all that I wanted to say. I truely hope you guys( I.e THE DEVS) found this letter useful and pretty self explainitory. I would also urge fellow players to add to this list, this is our game as much it is theirs so take it into your hands and suggest away. Anyway I will stop my rambling but I do hope this was helpful and that I did cover most things.

We agree that in future beta tests, we should not make any major changes after the Beta and focus on fixing bugs.

 

 

The grievances.

 

 

 

1. STUGS. 

I think we need to keep troops balanced. This will allow for more strategies. This should be an ongoing discussion; these are not the final changes. Please continue to give us your feedback, we are striving towards continued balance improvements.

 

 

2. More resource zones and Golden Empire. 

We did add some resource zones in this map. We will look for ways to do it better, but we do need to do this carefully and methodically. We are also working on redoing the Golden Empire map. Right now I do not have an ETA but we will let you know when it's ready. We will provide more maps to increase player options.

 

 

3. Tactics. 

Some players complained they are hurt by allies so we decided to change them. I would like to hear more feedback before we contemplate any additional changes.

 

 

4. Dismiss units outside the bases. 

This sounds good, we will work on adding it.

 

 

5. An escort button. 

This is definitely worth considering.

Perfect. Thank you so much for reaponding yourself. Sometimes we as a player base need to hear and interact with the people behind the curtain. Although the admins are amazing I figured with all the issues I saw it was worth while to write something directly addressed to devs. Thank you and please continue to do these answering on forums and stuff it's good to be able to communicate directly with the people that make the magic happen

Also regarding the tactics. I am willing to try to convince you to bring them back to normal. Yes I agree there were a couple people that used the tactic in an abusive manner but with the current system where we can pick our allies and team members it's very easy to kick a league or member that is abusing out of the alliance. Fighting a couple annoying people you guys Jeopordized the whole tactic in my oppinion. Before it was used widely to launch massive assaults which were fruitful as many leagues designated tactics for each member so they can interact as a league more smoothly.

I norm right long posts but this time I'm not going to. My last few long posts have been widely over looked at issues to the game, but waffles has some good things he has talked about here. But I want to add some thought to it. I will try to keep it simple.

1. Before you do another bata it needs to be the version you think is close to release, meaning everything that's new and nothing added after bata. If you add things after bata then you need another bata test. In bata you suppose to test a game that is expected to be live soon. In that version of the game we fix bugs we fix even more bugs. Once bugs are fixed and things are smooth you have a working release able game. But what happened is we tested a useless map because there was so many changes done after bata. I'm sure you see the down fall here we wasted 10 days of testing and fixing and giving great input. To have a bugged release. Next time lets bata the right way.

2. Stugz was overpowered when city's defense was reduced to 2000 from 4000 the new change isn't so bad. Who walks stugz to a city with turrets mine drops from a plane. I think the issue with stugz taking more room isn't really a stug issue but a change to transports capacity that was interduced which is prob your biggest complaint there small trans could carry 2 they still can. The big trans was changed I think lower not sure have to look I been testing other items since release. But they are better than before only because of the defense reduction. If that is changed they might need to be put the way they was.

3. Suicidel charge options.

3-1. Have it the way it was, we are not in faction anymore and have to pick our own ally's, we can allways go to war in a hour if they did it to us.

3-2. Have it effect league mates only, this way no ally's can be hurt by it. ATM it's a waste of tac cards to use it on myself.

So my league has used less points and diamonds when we are out to get it back up meaning you hurt your own objectives. The more we use it the more we spend. Most of the time it's used with a heal so it's a big tac points spender that you had right.

4. Res zone should have all 3 oil rubber and iron unless it's the Lvl one iron close to city. This will help fix some of that issue. Golden empire had the res right it was right on the money good spacing and well thought out.

5. I have spent 1 million gold upgrading troops and got none in return. There is such a big imbalance on upgrading my troops right now I'm not repeating myself about how much it costs to upgrade units when we have no gold coming in. Omg no gold really stop readin after this line think then read again. "No gold over time, troop upgrade cost how much omg why that much when I got 0 for a weeks play allready" think now and read again.

6. Where is the gold why does it cost so much I say this again because it isn't part of the game ATM it's unbalanced. Maybe after we win a match we get 500,000 gold can't wait to see in a few days. 

7. Dev make a list of the most important things to do. What's number one for a successful game? Bugz bugs bugz bugs fix 

8. Will a server restart every 24 hours or every 2 days fix any issues like stool troops or anything. It something to consider maybe I don't know I can't test that for you unless you give me the red restart button lol

9. In our match troop numbers are more balanced than in bata. But flags needs a small upgrade also I'm finding it hard to find things to Lvl on I got a lot of enemy's and we are ranked first in the map. But battle Lvl is growing slow first I think the reason is flagz. I have 3 ATM so why go kill a guy then again then maybe one more time I get another flag then I kill him for last time so I can cap. There is areas to farm some kills that's nice but I think there is a balance issue. Not sure if this is current but the higher Lvl the city we get the kill we should get a lot more xp from kill exp a Lvl 1 turret vs a Lvl 12 of city at Lvl 4 vs 15. That might help and it might be already part of the game but it isn't a big factor.

10. League city's are more useful now but we need res to stock them too. Please reread above note 3.

11. Last thing pvp is nice but not so much it's fun but we need something to hold onto ATM mines was replaced with league city, if we cap there upgraded lc they have less big troops to make. But that isn't a nice objective ATM. 

World of Warcraft has been around for 10 years now and it gets a lot of things right some wrong recently that because they made the game too easy to keep customer because game so old but that's another story, what I'm getting at here is they test fix bugz then release and fix new over looked bugz. They have pvp and normal realms. It's hard to compaired but my main point is you have people that are pvp people and you have people that are npc objective killing people. I know you want to go more into the pvp side of things but I'm in a map right now and I have 13 players part of the fight and we have 2 players that can cap a city because of flagz. We have to cap and demo and move forward cap and demo again. I think the game would be so much better if you removed flagz all together. Can you tell me honestly a good or great reason to keep flagz in play. Make it unlimited caps. 

I have went and wrote a long lost again. And some ideas I have had has been used and some not. But I think most of my feed back has been wildly over looked because we are talking about the same things again. I want to leave you on one last urgent thing to fix.

steven do you hire and fire people that work for you, if it's not you go ask your boss. Who ever does the firing of employs. Now picture this to explain to them. You have 2 building your employs work at. Some new some old but they are in 2 different buildings. Ask the person that fires people and let's say the boss is stuck working in building one. Ask him if he can fire someone from building 2. He will say yes he will also say I can fire from building one also. If they don't do there job I can fire any of them. No you might be wondering where I'm going with this so here it is. 

Rotymir= boss

job

1.  Get new guys to play and be in league

2. Organize and keep my boys active make it fun and so on

3. Ban/kick members that don't listen and fail to do there job

now for the exp

-battlefield 1 aka building 1

Current member:

rotymir

12 other names I can kick or you call it ban from the league if they don't do there job

-battlefield 2 aka building 2

2 players Rotymir can't kick you for not doing anything

-battlefield 3 aka building 3

1 player rotymir can't kick/ban/fire you

 

my exp is Rotymir is the boss that has employs in 3 buildings and I put my effort and time to organize the league for them, that's there pay. So why hasn't it been fixed or even touched for me to be able to fire someone that's in a map I'm not in. 

So in short if I was the boss that does the firing for your company why can't I fire people that works in the other building my office is not located in? Is it right to have a boss that can't fire his own employs. Ask yourself or boss if it would be right for them not to be able to fire there own employs just because they are in another building/map? Others have asking for this change for ever it's down right stupid to not fix something like this. Don't take that the wrong way but when we repeat our selfs over minor fixes to the game that's needed then why should we keep giving input in the future. It's a old problem and issue that's never been fixed looked at or considered. how can I be a Boss or leader if I can't kick/ban/fire at any given time.

thanks for listening to my rant again use it positively not negatively I know I said I wasn't going to make it long but this is my last post for a while until I can kick a member out of a different map. Please excuse spelling or grammar issue in my post phones are not the best to type with.  So see ya once real problems are fixed let's start with kicking issue. If we fix it then we can fix the next and so on that's how we make a good game fix known issues. But so far I have seen game changes not game fixes. It's not a good idea to change a game and keep the same issues, then add on top of them more bugs and so on. I hope this was helpful.

ps: fix chat times and chat issues is my next fix I will talk about once you fix the ban option. You had it working once but now you can't figure out how it worked before?

Waffles, u nailed it in the bud with the letter. Im for one that is almost on the way out cause i do not find the map or gamestyle fun. Hope developers see and read the problem, jump in to some games yourselves and see for yourself the frustrations. Put yourselves in noobs shoes. U want to make more money? U have to attract new players... Need those possitive reviews on the application review area. Fractions actually helped new players a bit as they had some allies at least. PVE was great with objectives for some players that dont have a 24/7 scedule to play the game to kill every dame base on the map..

 

All i really want to say.

Devs....please focus on bug fixes first and dont make constant changes to the game because people always want something else.  The fact is that no matter how many bells and whistles you put into this game, someone isnt gonna be happy about the game.  New major changes shouldn't take place this frequently....bugs should be priority, especially when some of the current bugs have been present for 3 versions of the game.  Sure i could point out things that i would like to be added or changed but people need to do what some of us have done and learned to be successful with the new changes by changing strategies.

First off... Golden empire was a horrible map... It allowed players to just fight npc and and stay in one spot instead of expanding... This is a war game a pvp war game... And it's annoying to have players focus on taking tigers than actually contributing to fighting the enemy... You got more points for taking the computer out than actual players.. Why even have an opposing side? Just make it human be computer... The new map is great for pvp.. It also allows players to decide who the biggest threat is and go to war with them instead of allowing one sided victories.. I agree with the resources... You increased resource zones in golden to allow higher costs then went back to old map and took out a ton of resources while keeping the costs.. Forcing players to decide if they want to go late game and build up lc or early game and save resources to buildup air .... The bugs come with games.. People need to understand that.. This happens in any game you play.. It takes multiple betas and updates to fix.. The majority of you guys don't understand that when you mess with something in code then you pretty much rewrite everything else... And you have to make sure everything you rewrote is compatible with what was already written... The stugs being slower is annoying but I can work wth it and the fact that they take more space to me is more realistic and people need to stop but hung because of it.. What kind of plane do you know that can hold 12 small sized tanks... Let me answer you none.. Hell the rock aka the largest American transport plane can only drop 5 tanks or 7 humvees.. So I feel like that's fine.. The people currently complaining about the map are the people who can't fight pvp so fun make a pve map to keep them idc but stop complaining cause I had to deal with the shitty ass pve map for just as long and was at the top of that as well.. Keep the map give more resources and focus on bugs that's all

Not disagreeing with you but some players are not pvp players and we need to make the game as fun as possible for all sides not just the people that love pvp. We just need to find great balance between everything. Also it was annoying for players to just go hunt npc because back then there was a victory point cap which contributed to winning the game but now unless you wipe out players there isn't much of a way to win. So I don't find harm in implementing pve type gameplay for people that aren't as fond or don't have as much time to launch full scale assaults every single day.

Thanks guys for bringing up all those issues. One more thing that has changed is the bombers power, that could be intentional and could be a good thing but I think it's a bug. 25 bombers mixed lvl 1,2,3 and 4 all fun out of ammo at the same time and barely enough to kill a tiger, that is strange to me, way less was required in previous elections versions. 

Zooming in bug is a killer, can't command large amounts of troops if you can't see them and every second matters

There are tons of pve games.. The whole identity of this game is pvp war... That's like going to clash of clans and saying hey I'm not a pvp player so make a pve map for people like me or I won't play your game... That's adding a workload for the devs... This game isn't very large so it's not like they can hire people to maintain multiple maps and servers... I understand what your saying I do but if you don't like pvp then this game isn't for you

Why do u have such an aggressive tone? I didn't say add a new map at all I just said it might be in the best interest to add some sort of pve objective which helps entertain multiple people. Now if all ur Doing is pve then u won't get far but it doesn't hurt to have an aspect of it... Plus like u said the game isn't big especially since this genre doesn't appeal to a lot of people so having something that is available for all types of people would help attract and retain more people.

I'm not aggressive.. I'm simply pointing out that if you want to fight computers then play a different game... The whole basis of this game is pvp so joining a game and then complaining because you can't pvp or don't enjoy pvp is illogical... If you want to pve join a pve game

Why not both incorporated into one game? It will help broaden the the player base and add variety to the play style

Welp, with attitudes like that, u can pvp all u want with only a few players in the comunity, and blowing up the same folks. U are right there are alot of games out there and guess what, they are succesful and make money ??

 

u are also right, u can move on if u dont like the game stile and thats what folks are doing. Soon u will have a big azz map with the same 20 or 30 ppl to blow up. Not much diamonds will be bought, not much money will be made. Servers go down and lights out no more game... At least u get to blow shit up...?...

  • Provide more maps. It will provide different kinds of fun in different maps. That's what we planned in the very beginning. Meanwhile we will also keep polishing the map of Global War.

What I am thinking about this game.

  • This is a PvP game.
    • It's more like a PvE game in the last version. Then I decided to make another big change to bring PvP back in this version.
    • It doesn't mean PvE is not good at all. There will still be some PvE contents in different maps, but these contents only take a proportion of the whole.

Great ideas! I'm glad that this post was able to help you guys out as for the changes we have had great ideas before now everything just depends on the execution :)

Here's my two cents,
The last set of tactics should be restored to what they originally where. 
You need to up resource output (example; a stug needs 640 steel & 260 rubber. Just so you get it, a level 5 mini rubber in your city doesn't produce this much in an hour. ?) All resources need upped production. 
Fix the stug speed. There is no reason for them to move this dang slow. It's not like they are a "super" troop. 
Put the commercial center back to the old way. The waiting 3 hours is garbage. You use to be able to get the resources you need from the com center if you couldn't capture the need resource zone. No you have no chance. Trades a junk at best. If you want to have gem purchase able troops put it on a separate page or in the munitions factory. 
I personally hate the neutral start. Everyone should start as an enemy. It takes way too long to turn the map red, would be much easier to just ally who you wish to. 
And for the love of all things good, please let us produce gigs, strategic bombers, jet fighters, motor carriage, wirbelwind, etc at our own cities. It's great to be able to build them at league cities but they are useless if you are the one league mate stuck on the other side of the map.

I personally think the game would be better with the golden map with the changes that have been implemented, other than the ones noted above. And we need more ways to earn gold. 


Please inform & let players vote before you make major changes to the GAME. We play because we enjoy it & don't want "crazy" changes with every update.
