Warfare Chronicles - Poseidon's Fury

I want to start by thanking the creators of the game. Marvelous and becoming better day-by-day. With the announcement of new units coming to the game before Christmas, I am excited for what this addition and others may bring. Through out my battles, I have encountered only one player to effectively control the sea. They patrolled and prevented aid from other players from operating in his AO from the air and sea. They also incorporated naval gun bombardment into their attacks to unleash a devastating attack wherever they desired. I tip my hat to him, though I cannot recall his name, as he gained my respect for his resourcefulness and using all the game had to bear for his fight. Saying this, I have found the naval units are the most underutilized force in the game by the majority.

It is understood the a location near the water is necessary for the employment of an all forces. Once naval units are underway, few can match or exceed their power. As of now, only the Artillery and Bomber units have the chance of destroying a ship which wandered too close to land or without anti-air escort. Besides this small risk, the reward for employing this unit is compounded by its ability to exert force of will onto their target from a relatively distance. Specifically, the new Battleship will be the Poseidon of the sea, once released as it should have a range of OVER 9000!!! Jokes, still a fearsome 400 cannot be overlooked. The Cruisers anti-air abilities are unbelievable and the ability to bombard land targets is an added touch. The Destroyer is strong against other ships and land units. Also, the Military Transport Ship has the ability to transports sizable armies from one location to another for the sole purpose of increasing the amount of hate one feels from an attacking force. Lovely creation. Lastly, the range of these units, need for fuel or food, is almost godly as each ship is supplied with over a days worth, over 24hrs, of each. The Ammo is nothing to baulk, sporting 4hrs of firepower to unleash. Though it seems the Naval Units would be the ideal choice, they come with their considerations.

As of now, the naval fleet is incomplete. Lacking an Aircraft Carrier, Submarines, and the Destroyer not employing torpedoes against other ships (I haven't whitnessed them in my surface naval battles), one is left desiring for more. The concept of the Aircraft Carrier, revolutionized how the 2nd World War was fought as the ability to strike further into the enemy was then a possibility. The concept holds true here as giving bombers, fighters, and light transports a location to launch and land will vastly increase the amount of across-the-map battles which happen in game. The addition of Submarines are drastically needed as artillery and bombers are the only non ship unit to take on ships with a chance of winning. Submarines will help level the playing field for lower ranked players by destroying larger ships. Lastly, the Destroyers need torpedoes to deal with the subs, as well as other ships. Historically, small, fast boats were the greatest threat to larger ships as they would out maneuver and torpedo the ships, subsequently sinking them. Enter the smaller, faster Torpedo Boat Destroyer, later shorted to the Destroyer, which escorted larger ships and used torpedoes to destroy the smaller boats. These setbacks, once corrected, will make the naval force a serious piece of the warfare puzzle.

In closing, don't underestimate the naval units. Good luck out there. And I'm coming by sea with Poseidon backing me up.
